July 2009

Well if you have ever been in northern Ontario in the early summer, you would know that the bugs will carry you away, so although we did visit the property between April and July, I just don't have any pictures.
We spent from July 13th - 19th up at the property with the kids. We have 7 in total so it was awesome to get them up there with us.

First order of business was to build an outhouse:

Coming along :)

Patty even started a project:

Looks good baby :)... Bench, footstool, so many options for this!!!

Here are some shots of the kids enjoying our stay:

April 2009

Well spring had sprung and I was itching to get up to the property and look around. So Saloman and I took a drive up on a Saturday and took a few pictures and messed around on the ATV...

Road on the way was a bit washed out... Not the road our land is on, but on the way there:

I was greeted by these huge ruts at the bottom of the driveway:

The path to the pond, and the "lot":

Patty and I returned the following weekend to have some fun on the atv's and see what was in the area. We had a blast and spent some time at a local conservation area called the "Gut". Its a beautiful spot that is just a few mins away by atv.

You can even see the smile she has on her face with the helmet on ;)

Mar 2009:

Patty and I went up for the day with Saloman and walked the property. Here are a few of the scenery shots, so you can get an idea of the terrain and the surroundings:

We started to clear an area for our "first" cabin. The following pictures are of the location we decided on.

The Beginning

Well I guess that I should start at the beginning and work forward from there. This all started for Patty and I back in Oct/Nov 2008. We talked and started looking for a parcel of land that would suit our needs and what we were looking for. We both had a similar dream, land, rustic an most of all a getaway from everyday life. Our future plans include living up there full time when we are able too, in a modest home with basic amenities.
We looked and many properties and when we first walked this one on a beautiful day in Nov 2008, we knew we had found "our" spot. The property is 10 acres, with a pond in the back of it, year round road access, a trailer on site and lots of place to grow.
Here is a picture of the property lay out:

The dot in the picture represents the location of the trailer.
We put in an offer and on Dec 12th the deal closed. Patty and I were so excited that we packed up the van, went to the lawyers and after the deal closed we headed to the property for the weekend.

Here is what we were welcomed with:

After some snow blowing and clearing, things started to get better:

We spent a few weekends in the trailer over the winter, really just to enjoy the place, some where to get away :)
